Weighty, slick, fleshy.
The province of Benevento (also the name of the city) in Campania is home to Fontanavecchia. It is a landlocked place northeast of Naples, where vines have long been cultivated. Fontanavecchia was established in the early 1900s by the Rillo family, who continue to manage it.
This Greco, grown at 400 m.a.s.l in argillaceous soils with lime-rich marlstone outcrops in the Sannio hills north of Naples (it straddles the Avellino and Benevento provinces), this fresh wine was aged only in stainless steel.
Notes of beeswax and stone fruits meld with hints of green almond and vague spice. Weighty and slick in texture, it offers lemon oil, wild herbs stone fruit and spice flavours. Concentrated and fleshy, it has a long spiced finish.
